Abstract

The paper analyses the links between the 16th Century European Humanism and the utopian ideas taken to the new continent by fray Juan de Zumárraga and Vasco de Quiroga . As Silvio Zavala wrote, these priests felt the influence of More´s joke in Utopía and were spellbound by the general style of that work, deciding to make it real on the conquered land at the other side of the ocean. KEYWORDS: Humanism, Hospitality Centers, American Identity
