Abstract

Augustinus wurde am 13. November 354 in Thagaste im römischen Nordafrika geboren, der Provinz Numidia. Nach der Ausbildung in Karthago zum Rhetoriker arbeitete er, Vater eines Sohnes, als Rhetor in Karthagao, später in Rom. In diesen Jahren wandte er sich vom Manichäertum ab und schloss sich dem Skeptizismus der Neuen Akademie an.
