Abstract
In this article, we argue that the covid-19 pandemic crisis has mainly affected women, leading to a decline in gender equality, an increase in violence against women, and the feminization of poverty. This setback has also worsened the care crisis. Our analysis is theoretically grounded on Federici’s feminist politics of the commons. First, we will explore the notions of ‘gender equality,’ ‘violence against women,’ and ‘feminization of poverty,’ which are often used rhetorically to conceal the damage wrought by globalization on women and reproductive work. Second, we will delve into the meaning of ‘reproductive work,’ which, contrary to capitalist logic, is the basis of the idea of ‘re-enchanting the world.’ Finally, focusing on the proximity of Federici’s idea to the ecofeminist perspective, we will argue that the worsening of the care crisis is interconnected with the growing ecological crisis, widening the gap between humanity and nature.
