Abstract

The paper discusses George Santayana’s concept of religion, its genesis, and its nature. Santayana’s ideas are reconstructed on basis his works, especially The Interpretation of Poetry and Religion, Reason in Religion and Winds of Doctrine, and Platonism and the Spiritual Life. According to the author, the views concerning the nature of religion advocated by Santayana are is essentially naturalistic. A source of human life for him is the cosmic universe; the man is a part of it. This world is reflected in human consciousness; it is also reflected in religious forms of thinking. According to Santayana, revelation is a superior form of awareness of the world, whereas the immortality is implicit in movement of the matter itself. Key words RELIGION, AESTHETICS, SANTAYANA
