Abstract

What kind of normative response should one adopt in front of resentment? This paper aims at questioning the possible value and legitimacy of resentment, against a common trend consisting in negatively assessing this kind of affects and attitudes. It uses two philosophical traditions (Nietzsche and Scheler vs. Smith, Rawls, Strawson) in order to show that the real question is the pathological evolution of resentment, and the difficulty then to react to it.
