Abstract

Following a review of Paul Tillich’s definitions of mysticism, this paper analyses the dual tension that characterizes it : firstly in regard to sacramentalism, secondly in regard to prophetism. The author ponders over the relation between protestantism and mysticism, and concludes with the question whether mysticism is a fundamental or derivative phenomenon.
