Abstract

In modern societies there is an increasing need for orientation in dealing with challenges resulting from scientific progress. At present, that can be observed in the field of converging technologies which shall enable human enhancement. In providing prospective knowledge and assessments to meet the need for orientation an entry point for naturalistic ideas will be uncovered. It consists in considering knowledge about societal developments analogously to knowledge about natural processes as causal knowledge. This, however, implies a causalistic understanding of society which will be critisized
