Abstract

Enhancement can be corrective – as in the case of eyeglasses, contact lenses, robotic limbs, and dental implants. The history of corrective enhancement reaches back to the invention of crescent lenses dating back to the fifth century BC, the prosthetic foot of an Egyptian mummy, and even to the prehistoric ingenuity of dental drillings, carbon‐dated to 9,000 years ago.
