Abstract

Professor Thomas J. Blakeley of the Department of Philosophy of Boston College, a member of the Advisory Board of this journal, died on September 22, 1989. Professor Blakeley was a pioneer and a dominant figure in the scholarly study of Soviet philosophy in this country. For some thirty years, as author, teacher, book editor, journal editor, translator, commentator, and advisor, he reached a large audience and made enormous contributions to the theoretical understanding of Marxist philosophy in the USSR. In all these capacities he will be sorely missed, and not least by his colleagues on this journal.
