Abstract

The paper is concerned with textual problems and the Nachleben of Martianus Capella: The source of Martianus’ chapters „De finalibus“ (3,278-288), as shown in part I, is the ß-version of the so-called Ps.-Maximus Victorinus or Metrorius (GL VI 229-239). In consequence, some textual problems in these chapters can be solved. The second part of the article examines the use of Martianus Book V (De rhetorica) in the 9th century „Compendium derhetorica“: The anonymous author used a glossed manuscript of Martianus. These glosses are often identical with the explanations of Remigius, sometimes with the preremigian glosses of the carolingian era.
