Abstract

A detailed, comprehensive study of Peirce's philosophy with the purpose of discovering the "profound inspiration which unites the diverse areas of his thought." This inspiration the author finds in Peirce's many attempts to reconcile empirical-pragmatic and idealistic-Platonic attitudes. She emphasizes that any interpretation of Peirce must be a conjectural reconstruction from the many fragments of his work, but hers is supported by excellent scholarship.--J. J.
