Abstract

The author's main purpose is to ask if traditional metaphysics can withstand the attack of prima facie anti-metaphysical phenomenological methods. Concentrating on Heidegger, Luijpen has little difficulty in showing that his criticisms of the history of metaphysics are not fair to scholastic metaphysics. Whether Luijpen himself has given phenomenology's full range of attacks on traditional metaphysics a run for their money is somewhat more doubtful, but his study does contribute toward clarifying the issues in an extremely cloudy area of investigation.—J.
