La petite fille de la surface comme figure de la dissolution du soi

Abstract

This article follows the traces of the jeune fille that can be found throughout Deleuze’s Logic of Sense, so as to pave the way for further reflection on possible links between feminism and Deleuzian thought. By analysing the key concepts of Logic of Sense, it is shown that Deleuze conceptualizes the jeune fille as the figure of the dissolution of the self, carried out through a close reading of Leibniz, Nietzsche and psychoanalysis. The jeune fille/the feminine is accordingly construed as an aleatory point at the intersection of possible world. This in turn resonates with Luce Irigaray’s project with respect to sexual difference, in which she calls upon feminists to create conceptions of the feminine as pure difference, not captured by the name of the Father or the patriarchal symbolic system.
