Abstract

Ch. 2 unpacks the notion of responsibility. It begins by pointing to the different senses in which people are said to be responsible for things and then goes on to examine why our responsibility for something matters in assessing the claims we advance. As part of this, two distinctions are drawn: between instrumental and nonā€instrumental accounts of responsibility and between arguments about responsibility as these apply to individuals considered in isolation and as these apply to the regulation of relations between individuals.
