Abstract

Lefort and Esposito have addressed democracy as an empty place protecting against the threat of totalitarianism, posing ontological, epistemological, and phenomenological problems. Democracy also faces other issues when it clashes with political theology, such as the sacralization of power, depoliticization, and the limitation of democracy. Although this empty place protects democracy, we have currently seen how this has been perverted and turned into a totalitarian or authoritarian regime. Thus, an agnostic methodological solution is proposed to address the problem of ontological democratic emptiness.
