Abstract

By means of an acknowledged artistic commonplace – The Annunciation – the article investigates the image`s statute in relation with the shadow`s statute, understanding the latter in all its ambiguity: as a final fingerprint of thing and first sign of nothingness. Is the Annunciation the announcement of a shadow that can never appear – God, the other – or, on the contrary, the mere announcement of a saturated image that does not refer to anything else? The same duality can be read in a political tone as the one that goes from the image of a power which cannot be seen, to the power of images, images that aspire to the absolute leadership of presence
