Der ‘dritte Mann’. Noël Carroll und die Philosophie der bewegten Bilder
Abstract
When thinking about the philosophy of film, generally Stanley Cavell and Gilles Deleuze immediately come to mind. In this paper I argue that a ‘third man’ also has to be taken into consideration, namely Noël Carroll. This introduction presents the following key aspects of Carroll’s philosophy of film or, more precisely, his philosophy of moving images: a) the criticism of poststructuralist theory of film, b) his challenge of the concept of media, c) his methodology, and d) his film ontology and theory of film narration
