Empress Dowager Li and Zhang Juzheng's Reformation

Abstract

Jang Ming Wanli period in the reform, the mother of Empress Dowager Li Shenzong played a very important role. This is reflected in two aspects: First, in the early years of Wanli, "the main suspect little country", the Cabinet has the power struggle occurred with Sili Jian volatile situation, the Empress Dowager Li promoted, Feng Bao and Jang relied, ousted Gao Gong, established ruled by her cabinet and Sili Jian coordinated system, stable political situation, in order to provide the organization to ensure the reform Jang. Second, trust, support Jang, efforts to reform the political affairs of the business. Empress Dowager Li Jang handle not only military and political affairs given power, it has the authority to implement reforms, but reforms were in the old school opposition and attack, but also a clear stand in support of Jang, crushed again and again to block reform of reflux. In addition, her education, a small bundle Wanli emperor, to maintain the enthusiasm and support reform, but also under no small effort. However, after the death of Jang, Ming Shenzong off "dismiss Zhang" activities, the negation of reform, the Empress Dowager Li has shown silent, condone or even support attitude. This is the right place only on the feudal rulers, not Gu Xinyi, and reform can not endure to bring them to the limitations caused. Empress Dowager Li was one of the most important figures for Zhang Juzheng's reformation in the following two aspects: Firstly, she helped Zhang Juzheng to build his power circle. She promoted Zhang Juzheng and Feng Bao to take the power when the Cabinet and the Sili Jian made political struggles during the early Wanli period since the Emperor Shengzong was young. Secondly, she supported Zhang Juzheng's reformation by not only to endow him political and military highest power but also to support his reformation openly when Zhang was opposed. Moreover, she paid much attention to educate young Emperor Wanli to support Zhang's reformation. However, Emperor Shengzong reversed Zhang Juzheng's reformation and gave his family punishment after Zhang Juzheng passed away, Empress Dowager Li kept silent and connived
