The Religious Dimension of Art and Aesthetic Experience

Abstract

Purpose of this paper is that the religious nature of art, not from religious belief of the external given, but for art and the aesthetic experience itself has intrinsic dimension beyond. Although the process of human cultural development, the relationship between art and religion has always been close, but also for the endorsement of religious belief has been that the major function of religious art. However, with the religious forces lose power, although the one hand, loss of sacred art high religious status, as a general thing; the other hand, is due to loss of the religious aura of the cover, only to be surrounded from the outside of glorious prosperity, to return to existence of simple, square one as a work of art itself with a brilliant color with God, and thus to reproduce the intrinsic value of the others were敎price. In this paper, first the beauty of nature from the religious art of starting to explore the tradition of religious art from the Xing reason to decline, and to discuss religious experience and the intrinsic relationship between the aesthetic experience; second, and then to explore beyond the art itself implied significance; Finally, the study of art and aesthetic experience beyond the qualities, in order to recover the intrinsic relationship between art and religion, and reconstruction of religious significance and aesthetic value of art value. The main point of this article is that the religious character of work of art is not outwardly bestowed by religious faith. Rather it consists in the inherent self-transcending dynamism of art and aesthetic experience. In the long history of human culture, there is always a deep relationship between Art and Religion. Religious faith is the main topics of religious art, and preaching faith is the main function of religious art. By the name of religion, numerous paintings, sculptures, buildings, songs, poetries are created, and their worldwide honor and worship come naturally from the religious believers' piety. Ever since the decline of religious power, it seems that work of art loses also its honorable position. But, just as art is liberated from the shelter of religious crown, it can return to its own Being, recatch the inner value of beauty, and reconstruct the religious value deeply rooted in the work of art and aesthetic experience. For this purpose, this article will first investigate the aesthetic character of religious art, in order to present the inner relation of religious experience and aesthetic experience. Secondly, it will investigate the transcendental meaning implicated in art, both inherent to and transcending itself. Last but not least, we will investigate the transcendent character of art and aesthetic experience in order to rediscover the inner relation of art and religion, and to reconstruct the aesthetic meaning and yalue of religious art
