Abstract

Many social studies methods textbooks are making progress in including information on disabilities. This study, however, raises the question of what kind of information would be most useful to pre-service teachers, as they get closer to entering their own classrooms. Do social studies methods textbooks adequately prepare pre-service teachers for teaching students with disabilities? We found that while a handful of textbooks incorporate meaningful information on social studies and disabilities, many textbooks still provide inadequate information despite the recent dissemination of relevant studies and the large number of inclusion students in today's social studies classrooms.
