Abstract

The concept of "repressive desublimation", developed by Marcuse in the One-Dimensional Man can still be useful for understanding the current society and its containment strategies towards the emancipatory possibilities. These strategies are still present and could open the way to a "jobless" society where inequalities were kept to a minimum. The art remains, even in the thought of the last Marcuse, the way to exercise the great refusal of the social order imposed by mature capitalism.
