Abstract

Dominant and recessive Characters. Michelstaedter on the Genesis of Correlation The aim of this paper is to outline the criticism of the notion of correlative in Michelstaedter, referring to the differences between the role of relationship in Plato’s Phaedrus and in La persuasione e la rettorica. Michelstaedter believes that will represents the essence of man. Man’s will, as infinite, must remain unsatisfied and devoid of object in order to be what really it is. At the same time, as a will, man projects objects that seem to delimit him out of itself. From this the illusion of correlation arises.
