The Relational Nature of Time: Emergence Across Scales from Quantum Dynamics to Qualia

Abstract

This paper proposes a novel framework for understanding time as a relational and emergent phenomenon, exploring its stabilization across quantum, classical, biological, and conscious scales. Drawing on insights from quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, neuroscience, and philosophy, the work argues that time is not an independent backdrop but a product of dynamic interactions and recursive feedback loops. From quantum decoherence to the neural synchronization of conscious experience, this interdisciplinary synthesis offers a fresh perspective on the nature of time, emphasizing its role in shaping both physical reality and subjective experience. By integrating the works of Carlo Rovelli, Henri Bergson, and contemporary neuroscience, this paper provides a comprehensive model for how time evolves from probabilistic interactions to the vivid flow of lived experience. This updated edition builds upon the earlier framework, The Emergent Fabric of Time: From Quantum Relationality to Conscious Duration further refining and expanding the concept of time as a relational and emergent phenomenon across quantum, classical, biological, and conscious scales. The updates include additions and clarifications to provide a more comprehensive understanding of how temporal structures emerge, stabilize, and evolve across levels of complexity.
