If my reaction to this three hundred and thirty page book is typical of other readers, it will be appreciated very much in clinical and academic circles: it certainly provoked me to think extensively of subjects presented in an unusual way. At a time when throughout the world the trend is generally to specialize, particularly in medicine and psychology, Dr Heaton’s radical approach in his study of the eye is thoroughly refreshing. Far from isolating the eye, its functions and its disorders, his theories seek to regard the eye in relation to the person as a whole
