Language of sociology: the problem of artificial and natural (everyday) concepts

Abstract

The article is devoted to considering and analysis of the language situation in sociology. There are two different approaches of construction of sociological concepts: 1) construction concepts from ordinary language of social actors – the tradition in sociology, and 2) construction concepts that are not present in natural language – artificial. Recently some sociologists, in particular poststructuralists, began to lobby the latter approach of construction concepts. But what brings sociology artificial language – what are advantages and disadvantages? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the everyday language of sociology? The author explores the origins of the artificial languages in sociology: identifies the following reasons for its emergence as a desire of some sociologists to internationalize language of sociology due to the acceleration of the exchange of scientific information between national sociology, the desire to reflect the social reality by precise concepts, the desire to construct a language, which is can`t naive read as everyday language (which is closely intertwined with the desire of accuracy). The author analyzes the possible negative consequences of widespread use of artificial concepts in sociology, advantages and disadvantages of the use of natural (everyday) concepts in sociology, propose a resolve the situation of naive reading of everyday concepts.
