Abstract

The article is a description and analysis of the Ultra-Orthodox daily newspaper Yated Ne’eman, the mouthpiece of the Lithuanian section of the Haredim centered on Rabbi Eliezer Menahem Man Shakh of the Ponevez Yeshivah in Bene Berak. Throughout the article the points of view on Y.N. are compared to those on R. Shakh himself. The article describes the general character of Y.N, the religio-ideological character of the newspaper seeing its primary task as sustaining the Haredi worldview, ideas on the state of Israel, the ideology of Y.N and R. Shakh on Israeli internal politics, the attitude of Y.N to Israeli foreign policy and the present peace process. Secular laws mean organizing society to a systematical life in sin, and it is the duty to press for religious laws as the people of Israel have a mutual responsibility.
