Abstract

‘The Feminisms of Ethnic “Others”’ is an appeal to broaden the engagement with feminism in order to offer new and critical interrogations of sport. Our authorial collective calls for theoretical interventions which challenge the centrality of white/ned feminist thinking, forwarding an approach to research that is interdisciplinary, elucidates different, complex and changing sites of being and belonging, and that aims to recover the lived agencies of ethnic minority men and women. Instead of foregrounding equivalence, we centre difference to trace the contours of similar and different theoretical persuasions, and demonstrate how they can be used to deepen understandings of the sensibilities, pleasures and politics of ethnic minority sporting participants. We pay particular attention to the contributions of post-colonial feminism, Chicana feminism and queer of colour thinking.
