Abstract

The essay offers a profile of Lyman Tower Sargent's career as a “calling” manifested in his half century of dedication to expanding the utopian literature canon in print and digital bibliographies, his widely used definitions that establish boundaries for the bibliographies, his efforts to convince different academic and nonacademic audiences in a variety of forms of the importance of utopianism, and his mentorship of young scholars.
