Abstract

The aim of this paper is to make a distinction between a number of different varieties of cognitive relativism. The focus is cognitive relativism rather than relativism about morality or cultural practicies. I distinguish between five varieties of cognitive relativism: relativism about rationality; relativism about truth; relativism about knowledge; relativism about reality; conceptual relativism. The paper may also be found in my book, Rationality, Relativism and Incommensurability (chapter one).
