Abstract

Religious epistemology has been on trial within the Western philosophical tradition ever since Descartes first associated a clear and distinct perception with logical, scientific truth and confronted true knowledge based on science with the false misconceptions of metaphysics and religion. Through the centuries, theology has never succeeded in its struggle to reverse this view. Its trial questioning of the epistemological grounds of scientific reasoning and of the means for establishing the frameworks for scientific theories has always been weak and ineffective.
