Information capital in modern society: the conceptualization of the term

Abstract

Article covers issue of theoretical conceptualization of the notion of informational capital based on the concept of Pierre Bourdieu. The text offers theoretical model of informational capital in three classical forms of the capitals. Apart from that, paper describes structure of the informational capital outlined on the basis of the development of the informational society and theoretical elaborations of Pierre Bourdieu. Also paper presents theoretical outline of opportunities for the conversion of the informational capital in any other form of capital. Paper focuses the role of informational technologies and information itself as resources that are capable of provide their owners with outstanding competency, wealth and leverages in the informational society. Another point concerns informational capital implements manifestation of ownership relations into informational product that is basis for the liquidity of the informational society in the context of its conversion to other forms of capitals. Paper also discusses limitations of empirical analysis of the informational capital.
