The Categorial and the Relational in Rational Choice: On Chrisoula Andreou’s Choosing Well

Abstract
In Choosing Well, Andreou proposes that categorial appraisals play a central role in determining the rationality of an agent with “disordered” preferences. In this paper, I examine whether this notion can play this role in the context of cyclical preferences generated by the pattern exemplified in Quinn’s “rational self-torturer” choice situation.Author's Profile
