Abstract

Aristoteles verwendet den Ausdruck axiôma in der Wissenschafts- und Argumentationstheorie sowie in ethisch-politischen Kontexten. Die gemeinsame sprachliche Wurzel bildet das Verb axioun, das ›für richtig halten‹, ›fordern‹ oder ›wertschätzen‹ bedeutet. In der aristotelischen Wissenschaftstheorie ist ein Axiom ein Prinzip, »das man nicht beweisen kann, [...] aber kennen muss, um überhaupt Wissen zu erwerben«.
