Abstract

This textbook begins with a discussion of the basics of philosophy, the techniques of argument, and the question of human nature. It then presents competing theories, in roughly chronological order. Among these are the theories of Buddha, Confucius, Plato, Aristotle, Augustine, Aquinas, Descartes, Kant, Marx, Sartre, Freud, sociobiology, and cognitive science. Wall teaches at Emmanuel College.
