Abstract

I study both McTaggart's 1927 argument against the reality of time and Dummett's 1960 defense of McTaggart's argument. I conclude that both McTaggart's argument and Dummett's defense fail. Furthermore, McTaggart's argument does not involve an infinite regress, and Dummett is incorrect in claiming that describing space is disanalogous to describing time. Dummett's interpretation of McTaggart's argument foreshadows his current anti-realistic views in his philosophy of language.
