    This article begins by wondering how the writer’s transformation into motherhood affects her practice of reading, writing and research: how maternities are made academic.     This article discusses the representation of AIDS in Guibert's posthumously published novel Le Paradis. The novel is situated in relation to Guibert's better known previous AIDS writings.
