    Influences of Turkism on Azerbaijani Literary Thinking.Sakhavat Azizov & Bahtiyar Aslan - 2024 - Metafizika 7 (4):122-133.
The emergence of Turkism in Azerbaijani literature occurred after the rise of literary Turkism in Ottoman Turkey, where it first developed and flourished. Although ideas of Turkification or a return to Turkism, as proposed by Ottoman thinkers, writers, and educators, initially sparked debate, over time these ideas evolved into an ideology and eventually a well-established concept. Unlike political Turkism, literary Turkism gained widespread acceptance among the people through the works of writers and poets, who awakened national feelings and patriotism. (...)

The Place and Role of Ali Bey Huseynzade in the History of Modern Azerbaijani Social-Philosophical Thought.Sevinj Misirkhanova - 2024 - Metafizika 7 (4):213-226.
Ali Bey Huseynzade, one of the prominent representatives of Azerbaijan's literary, cultural, social-political, and philosophical thought in the 20th century, was the first publisher of the political-Turkism movement in Azerbaijan. He was a distinguished political figure, talented scientist, thinker, and publicist, and holds a unique place in the history of the Azerbaijani people. Over time, there is an increasing need to deeply comprehend and study the magnificent artistic works created by Ali Bey Huseynzade. Throughout his life, Huseynzade dedicated his (...)

The sphere of manifestation of philosophy is thinking. Thinking itself appears and is reflected in different forms, which contributes to a different perception of philosophy. The study and teaching of philosophy as a science is its main direction, an important condition for which is the disclosure of truth. Throughout history, this process manifested itself first as a manifestation of philosophy in theology, and then as its reflection in poetry. "Philosophy of Azerbaijani Studies" by Heydar Aliyev is a discourse aimed (...)

Time transcending tense: An examination of heng 恒 in pre-Qin Daoist philosophy.Alexander Garton-Eisenacher Sarah Garton-Eisenacher School of Foreign Languages, Hangzhou & People’S. Republic of China - 2024 - Asian Philosophy 34 (4):291-307.
Recent scholarship on the philosophy of time in pre-Qin Daoist thought has not yet produced a thorough examination of dao’s relationship to time. This essay resolves this omission through a systematic study of the concept heng 恒 in pre-Qin Daoist literature. While principally expressing the ‘constancy’ of dao, heng also significantly presupposes dao’s ability to change. This change is characterized in the texts as a cyclical movement of ‘return’ and identified with the universe’s circular metanarrative of generation and reintegration. The (...)

I show that there are good arguments and evidence to boot that support the language as an instrument of thought hypothesis. The underlying mechanisms of language, comprising of expressions structured hierarchically and recursively, provide a perspective (in the form of a conceptual structure) on the world, for it is only via language that certain perspectives are avail- able to us and to our thought processes. These mechanisms provide us with a uniquely human way of thinking and talking (...)

  20. Iconicity Emerges From Language Experience: Evidence From Japanese Ideophones and Their English Equivalents.Hinano Iida & Kimi Akita - 2024 - Cognitive Science 48 (12):e70031.
Iconicity is a relationship of resemblance between the form and meaning of a sign. Compelling evidence from diverse areas of the cognitive sciences suggests that iconicity plays a pivotal role in the processing, memory, learning, and evolution of both spoken and signed language, indicating that iconicity is a general property of language. However, the language‐specific aspect of iconicity, illustrated by the fact that the meanings of ideophones in an unfamiliar language are hard to guess (e.g., shigeshige (...)

Language and Deed: Rediscovering Politics Through Heidegger's Encounter with German Idealism.Frank Schalow (ed.) - 1998 - Rodopi.
This book examines Heidegger's controversial relation to politics as it grows out of his understanding of his predecessors in German Idealism, most notably, Hegel. This way of developing a dialogue between Heidegger and Hegel on the issue of politics provides an important context for questioning the former's link with National Socialism. Yet the book does not simply condemn Heidegger for his Nazi involvement nor claim that his thinking is free from dangerous political implications. On the contrary, a second level of (...)

    Language Contact in Piers Plowman.Tim William Machan - 1994 - Speculum 69 (2):359-385.
To begin with the familiar: Piers Plowman is loaded with Latin. There are Latin verses, Latin proverbs, and quotations from the Latin Bible. There are allegorical characters like Concupiscencia Carnis, one of Fortune's daughters, whose very names are in Latin, and there are scattered Latin words and phrases. Even the structural divisions of the poem, according to manuscript rubrication, bear the Latin title passus and not the native fit.

Graphic codes, language, and the computational niche.James Winters - 2023 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 46:e256.
Human language looms large in the emergence and evolution of graphic codes. Here, I argue that language not only acts as a strong constraint on graphic codes, but it is also a precondition for their emergence and their evolution as computational devices.
