Abstrakt: Článok sa zaoberá tým, ako Dión z Prúsy pracuje s figúrou Diogena, respektíve ako prispôsobuje diogenovský kynizmus sociálnej a politickej realite svojej doby. Prvá časť načrtáva okolnosti, ktoré doviedli Dióna k rozhodnutiu, aby si obliekol kynický plášť. Ďalšia časť sa zaoberá tým, ako Dión vytvoril z Diogena príklad filosofického konania. Diónovo chápanie kynizmu sa prejavuje v jeho reinterpretácii príbehu o Diogenovi a Alexandrovi. Nakoniec sa článok zamýšľa nad otázkou, aké črty zdôrazňuje Dión vo svojom portréte Diogena a akú úlohu (...) prisudzuje kynizmu v období cisárskeho Ríma. This is the first critical edition of Diogenes Laertius'History of Greek Philosophybased on full evidence (both direct and indirect). The Greek text is radically emended from Diogenes' sources. This edition provides an ample double apparatus. In apparatus criticus allvariae lectionesof codices BPF and Phi are reported. Vol. II comprises the first edition ofMagnum excerptumfrom Diogenes Laertius preserved in the Vatican codex Phi (XIIth century),Ps.-Hesychii de viris illustribusfrom the same codex, and all the excerpts from Diogenes Laertius in theSuda.

Among the schools of philosophy in the Greco-Roman world, there was Stoicism, Epicureanism, Platonism, and Skepticism to name the most prominent and influential. There was however another "school" and that was known as Cynicism. The Cynics were not scholars or writers. Like a Jesus, or a Socrates, or a Buddha, they were oralists whose memorable utterances and actions were transmitted to posterity by admirers (and detractors). It is doubtful whether we can even justly call them philosophers, as they did not (...) organize themselves into a school or possess a set of systematic doctrines. Their mode of life was a philosophy of doing. The Cynics were, to put it in contemporary terms, lifestylists and performance artists. The most famous Cynic, Diogenes of Sinope, threw out his bowl, as one less thing he needed, when he saw a young boy drinking with his hands. He also comically, when Alexander the Great asked what he could do for him, replied "Get out of my sun" making clear the young conqueror had nothing to offer him. And yet the Cynics, as Mark Usher aims to show in this collection, did purvey some core values that distinguished them in their own time and recommends them to ours. Indeed, they speak with some urgency to our current predicaments involving climate change, socio-economic uncertainty, and psychic malaise. Their "less is more" approach to living anticipates our contemporary fashion for decluttering, minimalism, and simpler more natural ways of living. Like ancient Thoreaus, their disentanglement of our needs from our wants provides an object lesson in prioritizing truly human goods. The Cynics also exemplified the idea that subsistence lifestyles are sustainable lifestyles, and the principle behind their lived example gives the lie to the modern article of faith that economic development and growth are synonymous with quality of life. Finally, their embrace of cosmopolitanism-the Cynics coined the word-flies in the face of the resurgent nativism that threatens the stability of nations, including our own. The Cynics championed their positions on the grounds that each of them accorded with a state of affairs found in Nature. Their appeal to the example of non-human agents, animals in particular, is highly instructive as it validates the intrinsic worth of the non-human world more broadly, foreshadowing thereby a central tenet of modern environmental philosophy. Taken as a whole, this volume will aim to recover the Cynic ways of thinking and living and refurbish them and make them relevant for our modern, beleaguered world. (shrink)

O presente trabalho busca responder à indagação constante no seu título, visto que pouco se sabe sobre a adaptação literária no tocante aos gêneros textuais literários que são objetos desse processo. Em vista disso, desenvolveu-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica que possibilitou a configuração da adaptação literária como um fenômeno editorial da literatura infantil brasileira. A partir dos dados coletados, foi possível identificar os gêneros textuais inseridos no universo da narrativa literária, mais adaptados a crianças e jovens no Brasil: lenda, mito, epopeia, (...) apólogo, tragédia, comédia, drama romântico, conto, novela e romance. Essa tipologia indicia uma diversidade de narrativas, o que propicia ao leitor em formação, via adaptação, a exposição a um leque variado de gêneros textuais, possibilitando compor um horizonte de expectativas, na acepção de Jauss, bastante heterogêneo. Contudo, a ocorrência de tal variedade depende do processo de adaptação, uma vez que o adaptador pode interferir na estrutura da narrativa, alterando, por conseguinte, o gênero. (shrink)

There is some important data which has not as yet found its way into philosophic discussions on the problem of evil. Some religious people report that suffering, instead of being contrary to the love of God, is actually a medium in and through which his love can be experienced. This looks highly paradoxical, but it will be our purpose to show that it is intelligible and that it has important consequences for philosophical discussions of the problem of evil.

Este artigo propõe-se a expor as reflexões de dois filósofos contemporâneos, quais sejam, Michel Foucault e Giorgio Agamben, de modo a promover um paralelo,ou mesmo uma analogia, entre duas noções que permeiam as obras dos respectivos autores. Estas noções consistem no que Foucault chamou de Racismo de Estado, e no que Agamben nomeou de Tanatopolítica. O contexto, e tambémo objeto, no qual se efetiva este intento é, em uma palavra, a política totalitária do Estado nazista.Ambos os autores compreendem os fenômenos (...) totalitários a partir do ponto de vista da biopolítica, entretanto, ao tratar do Estado Nacional-socialista, Foucault identifica nele um paradoxo, sem, contudo desenvolver com maior profundidade a imbricação que ali se deu. Agamben, por sua vez, concebe semelhante paradoxo como pertencendo a uma forma de fazer política que já traz, desde a sua origem, os fundamentos que permitiram a emergência do fenômeno da forma como surgiu e que fora identificada pelos ditos autores, ou seja, trazendo em si tanto elementos antigos, como a glória e os ideais de sangue, quanto modernos, como a eugenia. A pesquisa bibliográfica que aqui se desenvolveu deu-se na leitura de, basicamente, três obras dos supraditos autores, quais sejam, Em defesa da sociedade, História da sexualidade I – A vontade de saber, de um lado, e Homo sacer – O poder soberano e a vida nua I, de outro. The author presents the role of nature in our knowledge and love of God in the Greek Fathers and one major medieval theologian, Hugh of St. Victor. There is a very rich literature on the contemplative use of nature but a lesser known one that is an active spirituality. It focuses on technology and commerce and how their improvement is part of our restoration from the Fall. It thus connects earthly pursuits to religious motives and goals. It is non-Aristotelian, free (...) of an anti-intellectual prejudice toward the mechanical arts and commerce. It distinguishes between the proper aim and the misuse of technology and commerce. The loss of this tradition was so complete that Francis Bacon is still regarded by most people as the origin of the notion that science and technology are part of our spiritual restoration after the Fall. I wish to show how the existence and order of nature may function as a witness to God’s existence and goodness. Although “witness” is a theological term, the argument is a philosophical one.

O presente artigo concentra-se no manuscrito de Edmund Husserl de 1936, conhecido do grande público sob o título de “A origem da Geometria”. A primeira parte do artigo aborda a hipótese husserliana segundo a qual haveria uma implicação mútua entre avanço teleológico e retorno às origens nas ciências e, notadamente, na Geometria. A segunda parte examina a passagem do mundo pré-geométrico ao universo da exatidão unívoca. Por fim, o artigo aborda as condições para o nascimento e transmissão da Geometria na (...) concepção de Husserl: a linguagem oral, as conexões intropáticas e, sobretudo, a notação escrita. (shrink)

No inicio de 2024, o Laboratório de Fenomenologia da UFF (LAFE), coordenado pelo Prof. Dr. Carlos Tourinho, fez convite ao filósofo Renaud Barbaras (Universidade de Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne) para uma conversa via plataforma digital com vistas à discussão da primeira metade de sua obra, intitulada L’Appartenance: vers une cosmologie phénoménologique. O autor francês gentilmente acedeu ao convite, dando aos integrantes do LAFE a oportunidade ímpar de trazer suas questões, adendos e angústias — cultivados ao longo de um ano inteiro de (...) imersão na teoria do pertencimento fenomenológico — diretamente ao autor estudado. O que sucede este pequeno introito é a transcrição, com todo esmero polida e aparada, do encontro com o professor Barbaras que se deu no dia 14 de maio do mesmo ano. Passeando pela conversa com o nosso convidado, pode ser que o leitor se depare com questões e faça ponderações que sejam suas também; afinal, autores como Leibniz, Bergson, Heidegger, Plotino arrimam a discussão e a exposição da teoria barbarasiana neste saboroso diálogo, que é aberto a toda nova interlocução e fechado para cada novo interlocutor. É, portanto, com grande satisfação que trazemos a público o registro dessa conversa sobre o L´Appartenance, que esperamos seja uma contribuição relevante para a riqueza da recepção e da produção da fenomenologia contemporânea no Brasil.
