I propose to examine here, at the outset, what I call the asymmetry in Thomas Hobbes's thought between his treatment of civil war and war between states, that is to say, between the departure from the state of nature - when that is a condition prevailing between individuals - and the permanency in the state of nature when it forms a condition existing between states. Secondly, I will address the Kantian progression beyond this asymmetry through the dual introduction of the (...) idea of progress and of ‘cosmo-political’ peace. The attention given in recent years by Habermas to the Kantian idea of perpetual peace [Habermas, 1996], the recent events in Kosovo and Chechnya, and their implications for the shape of an international penal tribunal to judge crimes against humanity, invigorate the questions of civil peace and of rights which transcend state frontiers. Este texto parte del “quién” de la acción-agente en la perspectiva de la pragmática ricoeuriana del discurso, inspirada en la otredad levinasiana como constitutiva de la ipseidad del sujeto, para insertarlo, en un segundo momento, en la dialéctica del reconocimiento, que articula en Ricoeur la acción colectiva, inspirada en el triple pliegue de la comunidad-ipse narrativa, la lucha por el reconocimiento y las capacidades de Amartya Sen. Este pliegue de lo colectivo se reinserta en la historiografía a partir de la (...) hermenéutica del texto, desplazando las dicotomías individualismo-holismo y explicación-comprensión en provecho de la articulación saussuriana entre estructura y agente, o lengua y habla. Finalmente, se concluye en el carácter abierto del pasado historiográfico, en semejanza con la traducción de un texto, no sin relación con el Nachleben benjaminiano. (shrink)

Seventeen essays make up the body of this anthology. Most of the authors are Latin Americans (although some of them work in other regions), and thus we might say that this volume is, in a very approximate sense, a showcase of recent Latin-American ontology and metaphysics. Some of the works (e.g., those Aubenque and Robles) approach the question from a historical perspective: others examine the most recent philosophical literature on the problems focalized (e.g., those by Pérez and Rodríguez Pereyra), and others offer new approaches (e.g., those of Rodríguez Larreta, Peña or Nudler) to a specific problematic area.
