Partendo infatti dai principi cardine del pensiero filosofico e dai suoi maggiori esponenti nel corso della storia, Giovanni Gentile dialoga idealmente con loro giungendo a esporre alla fine i punti salienti della sua visione rispetto ai grandi temi della natura, la storia, l'arte, la religione, (...) e a definire una volta di piu le fondamenta della filosofia attualista. The core of Hegelian idealism is the concept of dialectic, the soul of logic and the fundamental law of reality in all its forms. This dialectic is as vastly different from Platonic dialectic as the categories or pure concepts of the Transcendental Logic in the Critique of Pure Reason are from Plato’s ideas and Aristotle’s universals, and its character cannot be more plainly indicated than by this very contrast of the category with the Platonic idea and the Aristotelian universals.

De Soria read Le Clerc's Logica and Ars Critica before writing his Institutes of Rational Philosophy, which reduces methodology to analytics, discovery of truth, rather than synthetics, demonstration of discovered truth. De Soria, unlike Le Clerc, opposes syllogistic and the old logical systems. Reason, experience, and evidence from others supply answers for soluble questions. Twenty of De Soria's thirty laws of analytics concern testimony or historical research, divide into theories of sources and internal criticism, and have no counterpart in the (...) Logica. De Soria's canons distinguishing authentic from spurious writings derive directly from Ars Critica, which he acknowledges. (shrink)

Excerpt from Frammenti di Estetica e Letteratura Venne, dopo un paio d' anni, una memoria di Bene detto Croce dal titolo: La storia ridotta sotto il concetto generale dell' arte' memoria ardita nella tesi enunciata fin dal titolo, stringata ne' ragionamenti, breve, ta gliente, piena d' osservazioni acute; che, come avviene delle scritture di singolar merito, mise il campo a ru more. Piovvero le critiche, e il Croce rispose in una se conda memoria di Discussioni; che poi riun alla prima (...) e ripubblic con due nuovi scritterelli, i quali miravano a lumeggiare ancor meglio il tema contrastato, in un libro, sul quale anch' io ebbi a scrivere e contro il quale tornarono ad aguzzare le armi i critici, special mente studiosi di storia, scandalezzati, del concetto, cui si voleva ridurre la loro scienza. Uno storico tedesco giunse ad affermare nella Historz'sche Zeitschrift del Sybel, concludendo una sua recensione molto severa, che l'n nico merito delle memorie del Croce era quello di aver dato occasione a un certo libro, che io ho dovuto giudi care, a malincuore, assai duramente per voler essere giusto; dove io afi'ermerei, che l'unico merito di questo libro ' di esser nato in occasione di quegli scritti suggestivi del Croce.
