Abstract
The Council for Philosophical Studies, established under a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, will hold its third summer conference for college philosophy teachers from June 23 through August 3, 1968, at Southampton College of Long Island University, in Southampton, New York. The topic will be Metaphysics. Some fifty philosophy teachers will be selected to participate in discussions with outstanding scholars in the field. The staff for the conference will consist of Roderick Chisholm, Peter Geach, Alvin Plantinga, W. V. Quine, Paul Ricœur, Wilfrid Sellars, Paul Weiss, B. A. O. Williams. Conference Director will be Jerome Shaffer. A limited number of participants will receive a stipend of $450, an allowance toward travel expenses, and an allotment of $90 for each of his dependents. There will be others who will be accepted without financial support. It is hoped such participants will be able to get support from their own institution or some other agency. There will be no fees or charges for tuition. Any teachers of philosophy for whom the topic represents a substantial interest may apply. The Council will select those whose teaching and research, in the view of the Council, will be most strengthened by attending. Special consideration will be given to those who are not normally in contact with leading contributors in this field. For further information or an application form, write to Professor Jerome Shaffer, The Council for Philosophical Studies, The University of Connecticut, Storrs, Connecticut 06268. Completed applications must be post-marked no later than October 15, 1967. Applicants will be notified about November 15, 1967.
