Abstract
In this chapter, we take into account HRD practitioners’ knowledge about business and organizational culture while aiming to offer conceptual and practical elements to support them as they navigate the work environment where several ethical challenges about technology emerge. Our focus is primarily on HRD practitioners from organizations that massively employ AI and algorithms in their products (that we refer to as data science organizations), nonetheless, we feel the content is also relevant to HRD practitioners from other fields. By guiding readers through the historical context and concepts, we hope to provide HRD practitioners with the understanding and the language to better position themselves to lead initiatives that respond to social pressure and regulatory demands about digital ethics. While we rely on diverse ethics theories to support our approach, we also discuss models that are intended to convert theory to practice.
