Most people imagine public toilets to be dirty, full of germs and the re-mains of other people's unsavoury habits (Greed 2003; Bichard, Hanson, and Greed 2007). Drawing on ongoing research, this chapter argues that people are justified in their assumptions about the unhealthy state of British toilets.
