Abstract

The manuscripts of Pausanias present at III. 16, 4 the following: 'Iòντι δ ώσ πì τσ πνλσ πò τοȗ Xιτνοσ Xείλωνόσ στιν ρον τοȗ σοΦοȗ νομιζομένον καì Aθηναίων ρω τν όμοȗ Δωριεȋ τ 'Aναξανδρίδον σταλέντων σ Σικλίαν. By a change euphemistically called an emendation Madvig has replaced 'Aθηναίων ρω by 'Aθηνοδώρον, a person unknown to history, whose further acquaintance we will not pursue
