Abstract

« Let us imagine a body full of thinking members », Pascal writes (fr. 371), thereby with reference to a metaphor of St Paul's (I Cor. 12, 12-26). The idea is rather a commonplace one in the XVIIth century. But Pascal renews such a theological theme from his reading of Montaigne and thus tries to solve the three-fold problem... of community, communication and communion. Starting from biology, he demystifies politics by erecting some new hypothesis reinforcing mysticism
