Felicjan Antoni Kozłowski – the First Translator of Plato’s Dialogues into Polish
Abstract
The paper presents the figure of F. A. Kozłowski. Introductions to his translation of the Apology, Crito and Phaedo are discussed as well as the translation themselves and their reception among the contemporaries. His forgotten translation was provided with the introduction inspired chiefly by Hegel’s philosophy, Kozłowski himself, however, was not a philosopher. Th ough not original, his work was a pioneering attempt at translating the dialogues, and also it became a part of the philosophy in the inter-uprising period as another aspect of the reception of Hegelianism among Polish readers
