Abstract

PHILOSOPHICAL HERMENEUTICS AND HUMANITIES In this article the author makes observations about the relation between the expressions “human science” and “humanities”. Furthermore, the author discusses the relation between humanities and social sciences and humanities and philosophy. The author also argues against the conception of strict boundary between humanities and literature and presents the relation of Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics towards humanities. He does this through the analysis of Gadamer’s connection with Dilthey. The author argues that their relationship was complex and extremely nuanced.
