Abstract

This chapter examines the influence of Soren Kierkegaard's influence on English language literature. It describes the early reception of Kierkegaard's ideas, and suggests that he had both a direct and indirect impact on English language literature. The chapter also discusses the works of authors who drew inspiration and materials from Kierkegaard, including Walker Percy, John Updike, Richard Wright, Iain Crichton Smith, R.S. Thomas, David Lodge, and Haven Kimmel.
