Abstract

This article discusses the career and contributions of Peter Georg Ferdinand Drucker, known as ‘the father of modern management’. Many would argue that Drucker changed the way people look at management as a field of theory and practice more than anyone before or since. Evidence to support this argument is to be found in his forty-one books, some of which have updated editions while others have been published posthumously. Drucker’s awards and recognition include the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002, the US’s highest civilian honour. From the mid 1940s, when Drucker discovered management at General Motors, he initially tutored himself to learn about management by setting it with the total of life’s big picture. His work is a unique integration of ethics, economics, society, and management.
