Abstract
The philosophy of the 20th century has been constructed as a fierce critique of the modern idea of subjectivity. Phenomenology has also participated in this critique, through the critique of Husserlian phenomenology. So we find the refashioning of phenomenology from within, which is, a new contemporary French phenomenology. Our intention is to show with Claude Romano how the concept of ipseity can illuminate the contemporary debate about personal identity. Event and ipseity would be the key to understand the possibility of non-substantial personal singularity, as well as the possibility of being another. In addition, we propose the example of forgiveness as an enabling event of singularity.
